Make the Best First Impression

Just like dating, your home has one shot to make the best first impression. Most buyers don’t give homes a second chance and they’re quick to pass judgment. This is no secret. Let’s highlight the most common over looked items that can improve every home’s chance to sell faster and for more money. Start with the outside because this is what the Buyer sees first:

-Remove any dead landscaping/plants & replace with new plants
-Sweep and/or power wash all walkways/driveways
-Remove all oil & grease spots
-Repair any broken or damaged outside features of the house (screens, doors, deck, fence…)
-Make the front door/walk-up area inviting
-Try some colorful potted plants near the doors or on your patio
-Consider power washing outside of the home if necessary (be careful not to damage paint)

    Inside the home:

-Neutralize or soften any non-traditional paint color (think whites and light grays)
-Declutter and use a garage (or storage unit) for belongings
-Minimal furniture is a positive, define the space but keep the room looking as open as possible
-Remove any personal photos on the walls
-Kitchen and baths should be spotless so make sure things are put up in cabinets and drawers
-Replacing worn throw rugs and shower curtains freshens up the space
-Clean tile grout in bathrooms and kitchen if necessary and re-caulk around bathroom tubs and sinks
-Clean all windows and remove window screens if possible
